How every page works

1 · Picture

See the concept as a diagram. If you can draw it, you can solve it.

2 · Logic

Two or three sentences on why it works — never a memorised ritual.

3 · Speed

The shortcut that turns three minutes into forty seconds on exam day.

Three things in every margin

HOOK

An analogy that makes the idea stick.

SPEED

The mental-math shortcut for exam day.

TRAP

Exactly where CAT wants you to slip.

What is inside

Five sections, each built around the one idea that makes the rest of the chapter obvious.

1

Arithmetic

One idea runs the whole chapter: every change is a multiplication, never an addition.

  • Percentages as a zoom lens (×, never +)
  • Averages & alligation — the see-saw
  • Profit & loss — one multiplier chain
  • Simple vs compound interest
  • Replacement — the photocopy fade
  • Time & work — the units trick
  • Time, speed & distance, trains, boats
  • Circular tracks — laps of relative speed
2

Algebra

Stop solving; start drawing. Every equation is a curve, every inequality a region.

  • Quadratics — what the discriminant really says
  • Inequalities — ride the wavy curve
  • Modulus — it is always a distance
  • Functions & graphs — six moves, one grammar
  • Logarithms — the staircase of exponents
  • Max–min without calculus (AM ≥ GM)
3

Geometry & Mensuration

Two engines power every hard question: similarity and the shared-angle area ratio.

  • Similarity — scaled copies
  • Right triangles — the altitude factory
  • Circles — the four-theorem gallery
  • Polygons and coordinate geometry
  • Mensuration — one law: k, k², k³
  • The painted-cube trap
4

Number System

A number's prime signature is its DNA — factors, HCF, LCM and remainders all fall out of it.

  • Factors & the locker riddle
  • HCF / LCM from the prime signature
  • Remainders — clock arithmetic
  • Fermat and Euler, used properly
  • Factorials — count the 5s
  • Base systems and cyclicity
5

Modern Math

Counting is not formulas — it is building the object step by step and multiplying your choices.

  • Permutations & combinations — glue and gaps
  • Stars & bars, and the other counting machines
  • Probability as a shaded area
  • Sets — overlap as a sliding window
  • Progressions

How to actually study it

A cheat sheet you have read is worth very little. A cheat sheet you have drilled is worth marks. Five ways to make it stick:

  1. 1

Cover the page and redraw the diagram

The whole point of a visual-first book is that the picture carries the concept. If you can reproduce the diagram from memory, you own the idea. If you cannot, you have only read it — and reading is not studying.

  2. 2

    Read the TRAP boxes twice

Most marks are lost to a known trap, not an unknown concept. Is the triangle even right-angled? Does 'beats by 20 m' convert through the loser's speed? These are the exact places CAT sets its hooks.

  3. 3

One section per sitting, not one chapter

Take Arithmetic end to end in a single pass so the shared idea — every change is a multiplication — actually lands. Jumping topics hides the pattern the book is built around.

  4. 4

Convert every SPEED box into a drill

A shortcut you have read is worth nothing under a 40-minute clock. Do five questions using only that shortcut, immediately, before moving on.

  5. 5

    Finish with the 40-minute protocol

The last page is the one most people skip and the one that moves percentiles: how to triage 22 questions, when to leave one, and how to bank the easy marks first. Knowing every concept is necessary — it is not sufficient.
